“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”
Ever unexpectedly stumbled upon unknown information about your ancestors and their ways of life?
With your mouth hanging open, you may have looked up to the sky breathing a sigh of gratitude for the miracle of the discovery! Although it may not have occurred to you then, some dedicated genealogist or county clerk from the past was responsible in some way for the information that has just thrilled you. How can any of us ever pay back such a gift?
Unfortunately, paying back is rarely an option, but paying it forward to genealogists yet to come is possible through our own gifts.
If you have an item you'd like to donate to our collection, please consult our How to Donate page.
Otherwise, TCGHS makes the following tax deductible opportunities available to our members and supporters to help fund our continuing work with a monetary contribution:
General Fund
These donations are used for the general needs of the society. The society will determine where the funds are most needed.
Acquisitions Fund
These donations are used to buy books and other resources for the library. The donor can request specific book titles or subject areas where the funds are to be used. Otherwise, selections will be made by the book acquisitions committee.
Building Fund
These donations are used for the continued maintenance needs of the library – usually reserved for large dollar items such as paving the parking lot or replacing the furnace.
Computer Fund
These donations are used for computer hardware and software as well as other technological related items.
Reader/Printer Fund
These donations are used for maintenance & upgrades of the microfilm reader/printer hardware & software.
Memorials
These donations are given in the name of a loved one. All memorial donations are used for the purchase of additional books or microfilm. If the loved one is recently deceased, family members are consulted about what subjects they think the deceased would like to have the funds invested. Bookplates in the loved one’s name are added inside books bought by memorial fund donations.
Surname Tree
If you'd prefer to make a larger and more enduring donation, consider honoring your ancestors by adding a leaf with their surname to our Surname Tree. The Tazewell County Surname Tree has been carved into a 6 foot square oak panel that is the focal point of the entrance to the society’s library. Bronze, Silver, and Gold leaves are available for a $100, $250, or $500 donation, respectively.
Tazewell County Business Plaque
Show your business’ support of maintaing the county's historical heritage by purchasing a tile inscribed with your company’s name for the Tazewell County Business Plaque—prominently displayed at the entrance to the library (right next to the Surname Tree described above). Various size tiles are available depending on the donation you wish to make.
Not comfortable paying online? Fill out our Donations Form, print, and mail it to us with your check.
Thanks for your continued support!
Your donations are entirely tax deductible!
