More Details
The Tazewell County Surname Tree has been carved into a 6 foot square oak panel and is the focal point of the entrance to the society’s library.
The Surname Tree is the outline of a willow tree—a popular subject of early American stencils, symbolizing long life, resilience, and immortality.
Honor your ancestor’s surname by generously sponsoring a leaf on the Surname Tree. Anyone who has ever lived in Tazewell County or has an ancestor who has ever lived in the county is eligible to place a leaf on the tree.
Your surname, engraved on a metal leaf will forever enshrine your family’s name, where it can be admired and noticed by all who enter our library.
A surname leaf is a wonderful lasting memorial for a spouse, parent, or other family member. And, of course, it allows the society to continue “increasing and enriching public knowledge of our heritage.”
A bronze leaf is available for $100 donation, silver leaf for $250, or a gold leaf for $500.
