Tazewell County
First Legal Document
Book 1, Page 1
6 July 1827

The first legal document in Tazewell County
was recorded on 6 July 1827
by the first Tazewell County Recorder, Isaac Perkins.
It documents the 1824 Commissioners Court's authorization to allow
John J. Bogardus to operate a ferry
across the Illinois River opposite the Town of Peoria,
including the prices he may charge.
Note that the court originally considered the matter in March & December 1824
(when the ferry's location was still part of Sangamon County).
Our thanks to Robert Lutz, former Tazewell County Recorder,
for supplying us with a copy of the document back in May 2000.
Note: image is approximately 50% the size of the original document.
